First, this is a very nice gi for my daughter. She loves it. I found it to be extremely well made and she has found it to be comfortable. The material is very good quality. The only problem… it took two different sized sets to make one set that works for her as there was no way to get a set with different sized jacket and pants. (She earned one based on fundraising, and we had to purchase the second one.)
Before ordering, we checked the page with all the measurements, and then measured her according to all of the different parts of the chart. The measurements of the actual gis we received were EXACTLY as the chart showed, which speaks to the quality of the product. But based on the measurements, we knew that due to her body type and composition, there was not a set that would work for her and correctly for her. (She is built with long legs and a short torso.)
For one set (A00) the listed measurements for the jacket was the correct size, but the pants were much too short. For the other set (A0S) the pants were the correct length, but the jacket was way too long and much too big.
I communicated with customer service and they were very responsive and helpful, although they could not accommodate my request to get a set with a different sized jacket and pants.
We initially ordered the A0S because we thought she could grow into the jacket. However the jacket was much too long and impossible for her to wear to practice and compete in, while the pants were the PERFECT length and will still be within regulation length even if she continues to grow. (She may or may not ever grown into the jacket.)
We ended up then ordering the A00 set and the pants were WAY too short for her and would not pass inspection, coming far above the ankle, but the jacket fits very well with some room for her to grow.
If it were not for the fitting/sizing issue and not being able to get a mixed size set, it would absolutely be a 5 star product review.
I think for most people a specific set would probably work fine. I would definitely recommend using an actual tailor’s measuring tape to determine the appropriate size to order.
If you are reading this review and considering the product, do not let the 4 star review dissuade you, as it is not an issue of quality. Just make sure you are aware and take time to measure so you can make the best choose for you.
